This innovative breakthrough raises the possibility that Apple is working to improve user authentication by incorporating more advanced and modern technology than the current Face ID and Touch ID systems. In August 2022, Apple filed for a patent for a "seamlessly embedded heart rate monitor" that uses electromagnetic impulses from the heart to identify a person. This sensor, which is built into the front of the smartphone, may allow users to unlock their devices simply by holding them, doing away with the need for Touch ID or Face ID. This method uses the signals that are observed to identify or authenticate the user, allowing the device to function based on the identity of the user.
