Thomas Tuchel Named England New Head Coach Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Thomas Tuchel was named head coach of the England national team on Wednesday, with the goal of ending the country's long trophy drought. The German coach, who has previously guided Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, will begin his tenure in January, in preparation for the 2026 World Cup in the United States. The Football Association Chief Executive Mark Bullingham said in a statement, "We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world, and Anthony Barry, one of the best English coaches, to support him." The Football Association Board decided to hire Tuchel and Barry early last week, with Tuchel signing a contract on Tuesday, October 8. The announcement was postponed to avoid distractions during the recently completed international camp.
