UAE-Cambodia CEPA Launch Marks Global Trade Milestone

The implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and Cambodia on February 8, 2024, marks a watershed moment in global trade. This deal, aimed at expanding trade and investment, is expected to increase non-oil trade between the two countries by 2030. The CEPA is effective immediately and reduces or eliminates tariffs on more than 92% of product lines. The UAE is already seeing a 33% increase in non-oil commerce to over US$407 million in 2022, and it hopes to reach US$1 billion in trade with Cambodia by the end of this decade. Cambodia's strong economic growth, projected to reach 5.2% in 2022, adds to the country's ambitious goals. With the CEPA opening new export opportunities, machinery, oils, lubricants, automotive parts, grains, fruits, meats, and apparel are set to be key beneficiaries.
