Philippines Records 4.7% Inflation in July, Slowest Since March 2022

The Philippines experienced a decline in inflation for the sixth consecutive month in July, with the rate dropping to 4.7% compared to June's 5.4%. This figure falls within the 4.1% to 4.9% range forecasted by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. While the downtrend in price increases has been consistent since January, recent typhoons have raised concerns over potential threats to the slowdown in inflation. National Statistician Dennis Mapa highlighted that July's inflation rate was the slowest since March 2022, recording 4%. The deceleration was attributed to a reduced increase in prices for electricity, gas, water, housing, transportation, food, and non-alcoholic beverages. Inflation rates varied across different regions of the country. While Metro Manila's inflation remained steady at 5.6%, areas outside the capital witnessed a decline to 4.4% from June's 5.3%.
