Philippine Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro dismisses concerns over Duterte's China visit.

Gilbert Teodoro, the current Secretary of National Defense in the Philippines, has stated that former President Rodrigo Duterte's recent visit to the People's Republic of China should not be a cause for concern. In an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel on Monday, Teodoro asserted that Duterte's visit to China was not indicative of any serious issues and labeled it as "nothing new."

Teodoro's remarks come after President Xi Jinping of China invited a former Philippine president to play a significant role in fostering stronger ties between China and the Philippines. Last week, Duterte was welcomed by President Xi at the esteemed Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing, the capital city of China.

Interestingly, Duterte's visit to China coincided with the eve of a critical decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC). The ICC rejected the Philippine government's appeal to halt the investigations into Duterte's controversial campaign against illegal drugs during his tenure as prime minister.
