In a significant move aimed at addressing the ongoing challenge of illegal drug activities in the Philippines, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has accepted the resignations of 18 officials from the Philippine National Police, among them three high-ranking generals. This decision came after the president made a compelling call for the emergence of a "Bagong Pilipinas" or New Philippines during his second State of the Nation address.

The president's commitment to combating the drug trade and purging the ranks of unscrupulous law enforcers was highlighted during his address, signaling his determination to root out the highly nefarious drug operations plaguing the nation.

Following the address, on Tuesday, Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil, the Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines, released a statement implicating Brigadier Generals Remus Medina and Randy Peralta in alleged illegal drug activities. Both officers had previously held prominent positions within the National Police, leading the Drug Enforcement Group (DEG) during the preceding administration. The third official involved was identified as Brig. Gen. Pablo Labra II.
