The Pheu Thai Party eyes a new government formation
Thailand's political arena experienced another tumultuous week as the Move Forward Party (MFP), a social democratic and progressive political party, faced a second major setback in its quest for the prime ministerial seat.
Pita Limjaroenrat, the leader of the Move Forward Party, found himself in the midst of a political storm as the Thai parliament denied him the opportunity to stand for a second parliamentary vote for the esteemed position. The denial came after a contentious and lengthy seven-hour debate among lawmakers.
This recent rejection was a follow-up to a previous attempt made by the Move Forward Party to secure the prime ministerial seat. In the May election, the MFP garnered the highest number of votes, displaying their popularity among the electorate. However, despite their strong showing, Pita Limjaroenrat failed to obtain the required 375 parliamentary votes for his election as prime minister.
