Asian Football Confederation Announces Revamp of Champions League and Launch of Women's Tournament

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC), the authoritative entity governing association football in Asia and Oceania, is poised to usher in a transformative era for its flagship competitions. With changes slated for 2024, the AFC is set to streamline its Asian Champions League and introduce an Asian Women's Champions League, propelling both men's and women's club football into a new chapter.

The forthcoming transformation will see a more concentrated Asian Champions League, featuring fewer teams but a heightened prize pool. Commencing in September 2024, the revamped league will welcome 24 premier club sides from across the continent. Notably, the championship-winning team stands to secure a remarkable US$12 million, while the runner-up will claim a substantial US$4 million prize.

The Asian Champions League Elite (ACLE), the apex of the new three-tier structure, forms the summit of the competition pyramid. Beneath it lies the AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2), followed by the AFC Challenge League (ACGL), encompassing a total of 76 teams from diverse corners of Asia.
