As the world emerges from the grip of the COVID-19 pandemic, China is taking bold steps to revive its economy and foster innovation. The country is strategically harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) and high-speed broadband to create a new digital economy while also easing social controls to promote the free movement of people and information. Through policy adjustments and reforms, China aims to accelerate economic growth, enhance supply chains, and attract skilled workers, ultimately positioning itself as a global economic powerhouse.
In a bid to drive economic growth in the post-pandemic era, Beijing is placing a strong emphasis on technological advancements. The country has already surpassed the United States in terms of 5G infrastructure, boasting an impressive 2.3 million 5G base stations and download speeds that are twice as fast as those in the US. This robust digital infrastructure forms the backbone of China's new digital economy, facilitating innovative technologies, AI-powered solutions, and efficient high-speed data transfer.
Recognizing the significance of securing supply chains and fostering job creation, the Ministry of Public Security is taking measures to relax the household registration system. By making household registration more accessible, China aims to encourage skilled rural residents to live and work in cities, breaking down the decades-old rigid distinction between urban and rural dwellers that has limited population movement.
