Chow Kon Yeow Sworn In for Second Term as Penang's Chief Minister

Malaysian politician, lawyer, and journalist Chow Kon Yeow has taken office for a second term as the Chief Minister of Penang on August 13th.

In an official ceremony at Seri Mutiara, the residence of Penang's governor, Ahmad Fuzi bin Abdul Razak, the 8th Yang di-Pertua Negeri of Penang, presented Chow Kon Yeow with his appointment letter. At 9:38 am, Chow Kon Yeow was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Penang, pledging to diligently fulfill his duties in the position. Fuzi Razak extended the invitation to Chow Kon Yeow to form the new state government.

Among the attendees were Chow Kon Yeow's wife, Tan Lean Kee, and the chairman of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Lim Guan Eng.

Recent state polls reportedly resulted in Pakatan Harapan (PH) securing a majority of over 50% of votes. Malaysia's Election Commission (EC) chairman, Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, announced that PH had won 21 out of the 40 State Legislative Assembly seats contested in Penang. Subsequently, the Penang Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman confirmed the coalition's two-thirds majority win. Allegedly, the Pakatan Harapan-Barisan Nasional unity coalition triumphed, securing a total of 29 out of 40 seats in the Penang state.
