In a resolute stride towards eradicating the grave issue of human trafficking, Indonesia and Cambodia have reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative action. The significant step underscores their shared determination to combat this heinous crime, setting a poignant precedent for the fight against human exploitation.

This impactful initiative was unveiled at the 26th ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM) forum, a momentous gathering held in Phuket, Thailand, from August 8 to August 11. At the forefront of this endeavor were Silmy Karim, Director General of Immigration from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, representing Indonesia, and General Chantarith Kirth, Head of the Cambodian Immigration Delegation, representing Cambodia.

Central to their discussions was the alarming surge in human trafficking cases, particularly those involving Indonesian victims. Director General Silmy Karim drew attention to the various forms of exploitation Indonesians have fallen prey to, ranging from online gaming and internet fraud to organ trafficking. He underscored the urgency of concerted efforts to thwart these abhorrent crimes, shedding light on the dire need for a coordinated approach to curbing their prevalence.
