 In an exciting moon-bound rivalry with India, Russia is poised to launch its first lunar landing spacecraft in 47 years on August 11. The Luna-25 spacecraft's launch follows closely on the heels of India's Chandrayaan-3 lunar lander, scheduled to touch down on the moon's south pole on August 23.

The Luna-25 is projected to undertake a five-day journey to the moon, followed by an orbit of five to seven days before its descent. This timeline suggests that the Russian spacecraft might achieve a neck-and-neck race with its Indian counterpart.

Despite the challenging terrain of the south pole, researchers anticipate that this region holds significant ice deposits, potentially usable for extracting oxygen and fuel to sustain future human activity. Assurances from Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, underscore that the two spacecraft will not intersect or collide due to distinct planned landing sites. While Chandrayaan-3 will conduct experiments for a few weeks, Luna-25 is designed for a year-long mission.
