Semarang City, the capital of Indonesia's Central Java region, has once again claimed the top spot in the University of Indonesia's (UI) GreenCityMetric list for 2022. The prestigious award recognizes the city's unwavering commitment to tackling environmental challenges and acknowledges its remarkable achievements in sustainable urban development.

Mayor Hevearita Gunaryanti Rahayu expressed gratitude for the honor and highlighted that this marks Semarang's second time receiving the prestigious UI GreenCityMetric award. The city's well-planned spatial growth and robust infrastructure, crucial in supporting sustainability efforts, have been credited for its success.

Despite being hailed as Indonesia's most sustainable city, Semarang faces significant challenges, particularly during the El Nino phenomenon. However, the city remains dedicated to addressing these issues head-on by enhancing its infrastructure to mitigate flooding risks and other El Nino-related hazards.
