The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the authoritative body overseeing meteorological and hydrological services in the Philippines, has issued a grave warning as Typhoon "Goring" gains strength and transforms into a severe tropical storm. The nation's weather agency has raised Signal No. 3 for certain regions, indicating the potential for severe impact, including the risk of landslides.
Initially, the typhoon prompted the issuance of Signal No. 1 over Batanes, a region administratively linked with the Cagayan Valley area. However, as Typhoon Goring picked up momentum, the stakes heightened. For the first time, Signal No. 3 was raised over Santa Ana in Cagayan and Divilacan and Palanan in Isabela.
During a press briefing on Saturday morning at 11 am, PAGASA revealed a swift escalation in the typhoon's maximum sustained winds. Experts fear that if the current trend persists, Typhoon Goring could potentially intensify into a super typhoon by Monday.
The meteorological agency reported Typhoon Goring's position to be in Aparri, a municipality within the Cagayan province, on Saturday. The storm is making a slow south-southwest trajectory at a speed of 10 km/h.
