Salmon, a major fintech firm, has received regulatory approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) to acquire a controlling shareholding in Rural Bank of Sta. Rosa from the Laguna. This historic agreement establishes Salmon as a vital partner in boosting financial inclusivity and innovation in the country.

The transaction, set to conclude in the coming weeks, will see Salmon owning 59.7% of the Rural Bank of Sta. Rosa, a licensed financial institution with a rich history of serving Filipino communities since 1963. This strategic move aligns with the BSP's initiatives to drive financial inclusion and digital transformation, particularly through the Rural Bank Strengthening Program launched in 2022 and the Digital Payment Transformation Roadmap for 2020 to 2023.

Salmon's acquisition brings forth several positive developments for the Philippine fintech landscape. Firstly, it expands Salmon's reach and customer base, as the company operates both online and offline, emphasizing exceptional customer service. With 92% of Salmon's clients expressing satisfaction and a willingness to recommend the company, this acquisition is poised to make a significant impact on financial services accessibility.
