YouTube, the behemoth of video-sharing platforms, recently marked its 19th anniversary since its inception on February 14, 2005. Founded by three visionary entrepreneurs, the platform quickly soared to prominence, catching the eye of tech giant Google, which acquired it for USD 1.65 billion a mere 18 months later. Serving as a cornerstone in the Google ecosystem since 2006, YouTube has evolved into a cultural phenomenon, boasting a staggering two billion active users.

As of 2024, the platform continues to captivate audiences globally, with 2.7 billion active users, and projections suggest an increase to 2.85 billion by 2025. Monthly visits to the platform hover around an impressive 113 billion, with over half of the world's netizens making at least one monthly pilgrimage to YouTube. Its premium version, YouTube Premium, and companion YouTube Music have recently surpassed 100 million users worldwide.

YouTube's financial prowess is evident, generating a substantial annual ad revenue of USD 30 billion, constituting its primary source of income. Geographically, India leads the pack with the highest number of YouTube users (462 million), followed by the United States (239 million), while Türkiye secures the 11th position with 57.5 million active users.

With an almost equal gender distribution among its users (46.1% women and 53.9% men), YouTube caters to a diverse audience. The platform sees a daily upload of 720,000 hours of videos, primarily attracting users aged between 15 and 45, who collectively watch over a billion hours of video content every day.
