UAE Facilitates Seventh Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine, Reaching Over 1,700 Prisoners Exchanged

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has successfully mediated another prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine, the seventh such swap facilitated by the Gulf nation in 2024. This latest trade saw 115 inmates from each side released, bringing the total number of captives exchanged via UAE mediation to nearly 1,700.

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs thanked both the Russian and Ukrainian governments for their support in the mediation process. The Ministry emphasized the UAE's commitment to diplomatic solutions and its role as a credible mediator in the current dispute.

The effective exchange demonstrates the UAE's active role in mitigating the humanitarian impact of the Russia-Ukraine war. By supporting these contacts, the UAE reinforces its position as a significant actor in global diplomacy, demonstrating its ability to retain good ties with both Russia and Ukraine.

The UAE's mediation efforts have already resulted in six prisoner transfers between the two countries in 2024 alone. Furthermore, the UAE was instrumental in the exchange of two convicts between the United States and Russia in December 2022.

As the conflict continues, the UAE remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation and peaceful resolution through dialogue.
