The geopolitical landscape of Southeast Asia is undergoing a tectonic shift. For decades, the United States was viewed as the indispensable powerthe security guarantor that allowed the region’s tiger economies to flourish. However, recent events, culminating in the devastating economic fallout of the Iran war, have accelerated a trend that many in Washington failed to see coming: Southeast Asia is increasingly looking toward Beijing, not out of ideological love, but out of pragmatic necessity. South Korean Authorities Uncover AI Deepfake Porn Scandal in Schools

South Korean officials have discovered a massive network of deepfake pornography made by artificial intelligence floating on the Telegram messaging app, with an initial focus on schools and universities. Following this discovery, teenage activist Bang Seo-yoon began collecting accounts from individuals whose personal images had been purposefully misused.

Her efforts have drawn attention to the country's growing problem of sexual cyber assault, as she documented multiple cases of schoolboys stealing innocent images from Instagram and using artificial intelligence technology to generate explicit images intended to embarrass female coworkers and even teachers.

South Korea, which has long battled sexual cyberviolence, is recognized for its advanced technology and fast internet. Experts, particularly in colleges, argue that the unrestricted growth of Telegram chat rooms and artificial intelligence technologies exacerbates the problem.

The capacity to use artificial intelligence to manipulate photos has allowed criminals to swiftly and readily manufacture deepfake content, dramatically increasing the incidence of sexual harassment charges involving youngsters. Inappropriate regulations and the anonymity given by channels such as Telegram have exacerbated the situation, leaving victims with no recourse.

The vast majority of those involved in the deepfake scandal are most likely teens. According to police, many of these offenders steal photographs from social network accounts, convert them to pornographic content, and then post them in chat rooms set up specifically for this reason.
