Oscars 2025 nominations postponed as California fires rage


Numerous homes are being destroyed and thousands of acres of land are being burned by the numerous fires that are raging around California. The January 17 release of the Oscars 2025 nominations has been rescheduled for January 19 out of caution.

CEO Bill Kramer of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences emailed members to inform them of the date adjustments. Additionally, the Oscar nominee voting period has been extended till January 14 by a few days.

Other scheduling adjustments, such the postponement of the International Feature Shortlist Screening, were also mentioned in the email. More than 1,000 buildings have already been burned by the Palisades Fire, which is blazing close to Malibu and Santa Monica.

The date of the 2025 Oscars is March 2. The annual ceremony will be hosted by Canadian and well-known host Conan O'Brien. As courageous firefighters work to contain the fires, stay tuned for further updates on the blazing situation in California.
