Understanding early signs of dementia after Pauline Quirke’s diagnosis




According to her husband, Pauline Quirke, who gained international recognition for her performance in Birds of a Feather, has chosen to step away from all professional and business responsibilities following her Alzheimer diagnosis in 2021. At the time, the diagnosis had not been disclosed.


Quirke gained notoriety for her role as Sharon Theodopolopodous in the enduring sitcom. The run of Birds of a Feather was 1989–1998 and 2014–2020. The focus of the show was on the sisters Sharon and Tracey, who were portrayed by Linda Robson.

After their husbands are arrested for armed robbery, the sisters are left to fend for themselves. Quirke's performance in The Sculptress earned her a 1997 Bafta nomination. She also starred in Emmerdale and Maisie Raine.

Memory loss, confusion about time and location, difficulty focusing, mood swings, difficulty performing everyday duties, difficulty paying attention in a conversation, or difficulty finding the correct term are some of the early indicators of dementia.
